“Human centered design” finally got its 15 minutes of fame. A recent interview with IDEO’s David Kelley featured the thought process behind some of the best product design being produced today- from the first Apple mouse, to a heart defibrillator that talks to you calmly and walks you through its use during an emergency.
What was interesting in the interviews was the focus on making decisions based on how most good design firms (no matter what the discipline) approach problem solving by having an end goal of clarity, simplicity, usability and functionality.
IDEO’s approach to design is simple; have empathy for the end-user by encouraging human centered design thinking and hire a diverse group of intelligent individuals to work together to solve design problems.
